3rd beta

Had blood taken for my 3rd and final beta this morning, and hopefully my final blood draw for some time! It came back at 6,000. According to the doubling every 48 hours theory I was expecting over 10,000 but this means a 70 hour doubling rate. The nurse said she wasn't at all concerned, they consider anything between 4,000 and 28,000 at this stage as 'normal'.

Yes, I do have overly high expectations, but mostly I am concerned because I have been so unwell. I went to the doctor yesterday and was given antibiotics so I hope to be back to normal again very soon.

My pg symptoms have either packed up and left or are just hiding beneath all the coughing and snot. Its so weird, every morning I look at my breasts and think "oh ok I must still be pregnant" and every time I wipe after the toilet and don't see blood I'm almost shocked "ha! still pregnant. amazing".

We are currently booked into 2 obstetricians and 3 hospitals! I'm finding it very difficult to take it all seriously and make a decision.

6 more sleeps until our first scan......

Of course you're concerned. That's because you're normal, and in your position, who wouldn't be concerned?

If you're within the normal range with your hCG results, you are normal. And the nurse didn't seem worried.

Having no pregnancy symptoms is also normal.

I'm so glad you're on the antibiotics. It's all going to get better from here - and it's hard to think straight when you're sick.

These will be a long and difficult six days but I'll be thinking about you every day.

That's a really good number, I understand why you're worried though. I'm so glad you're still pregnant. :)

Good luck with the hospital and Ob search. I don't know which one's your looking at or if you're Public V Private but there's one in Bundoora that I can highly recommend. When I was doing midwifery I had a client deliver there and some of our friends will be having babies there very soon. It's really nice and a bit more caring than the bigger hospials. They also have an awesome sleep school.

That is a pretty good beta number! I'm holding my breath right along with you waiting for the ultrasound.

You're doing great - look at this:

"Within the first 2-4 weeks after fertilization, HCG usually doubles every 48-72 hours. That usually corresponds to HCG levels below 1200 IU. From 1200-6000, the HCG usually takes 72-96 hours to double. Above 6000 IU, the hCG often takes over four days to double. So, the rate of increase in HCG levels normally varies as a pregnancy progresses. Normal HCG values vary up to 20 times between different pregnancies..."

I got this at http://blogs.webmd.com/healthy-pregnancy/2005_11_01_healthy-pregnancy-archive.html. If you're at 70 hours and this high, you're right where you're supposed to be! These numbers are awesome.

The boogers and snot, well, that sucks, but the HCG numbers? Those are gooood.

Best -J

Thank you my dear friends. As always I would go totally nuts without you all. From now on I promise to keep away from the BetaBase site, and will try to remain calm until Monday.

Thanks J for the link and Sassy for the hospital info, its always good to get inside information.
